Certifications aren’t everything – how do we support super local brands?

Certifications in fashion and textiles, are they always the first thing we should look for? As Full Circle Fibres is a B Corp this may seem an odd thing to discuss, surely certification is ‘essential?’
However, as a small business, and knowing the plethora of certifications, accreditations, affiliations, pledges and more that a business or a product can be associated with in fashion, both locally and globally, does it exclude the pioneering local and indie brands and businesses if we only encourage ethical shoppers to be guided in this way?

It was a pleasure to discuss this with the amazing Fiona Mehmet founder of Noblesse and her ‘Conversations for Change’ podcast. Fiona and I, both based in Brisbane as social enterprises well know the ‘on the ground’ work we do with each other and wider collaborations to be as low impact as possible, however at this end of the ecosystem many many fantastic businesses rarely make it into the blogs and ethical fashion guides that are national and international, yet their work is really vital too.
