If you Knit or Crochet, and there’s a little one in your world to wrap in creative love, you’re after something soft, gentle and special but able to actually be used every day, it’s a conundrum, something lovely and pure….. what better than pure unbleached Australian Cotton for all year round in our subtropical climate.
It doesn’t need to be tricky, some of the loveliest patterns are just a great combo of the basics. This pattern, adapted and knitted by my wonderful friend Joan, apparently makes great ‘bus knitting’ once you get going with it.
After the trip to these cotton fields I machine washed it, it slightly grew in length, cotton can do that, and looks just as it did when first knitted – this washability is one of the awesome things about great quality cotton.
It will survive normal use, and being washed hot, and sterilised if necessary, perfect for enjoying everyday from newborn onwards.
This blanket is 62cm x 74cm and used 405g of Full Circle FIbres 100% Australian Unbleached Australian Cotton Yarn, Joan pre-shrunk it in skeins before knitting. The pattern used is Garter Rib Baby Blanket found on Ravelry, by Orange Flower Yarn. Joan started with 12 less stitches and knitted it 2 inches / 6 cm longer than the pattern. Swatching is always recommended. I’m a bit of a loose caboose when knitting but many others are tighter with their tension!
The yarn is a DK/ Light worsted weight. Joan’s knitting notes are here
